Eastgate Sod has been providing the highest quality Performance Fescue Sod since 1986 to the Greater Cincinnati area for *pickup and delivery.

Our sod farm fields are located in Loveland and Batavia Ohio.

* Sod is a living product and expires much like cutting flowers for your table. Because of the nature of our product we can only harvest "cut" Sod when an order has been placed and paid for ahead of pickup and or delivery.

Our History

Mike Ward purchased the Eastgate farm in 1986 from Jim Wolfer. It was originally 139 acres. In the late 80’s he purchased an additional 50 acres adjacent to the farm. At that time, Eastgate Sod (EGS) was founded. EGS was operated as a DBA of Mike Ward Landscaping (MWL) from 1986 until the sale of MWL in 2021.

In addition to growing, cutting and delivering sod, MWL also offered installation of the sod to builders, other landscapers, and business and residential customers.

At the time, they grew bluegrass sod (BGS) and used a hand operated Ryan sod cutter that left the rolled up sod on the ground. In 1987, our first Brouwer Tractor mounted sod harvester was purchased along with a piggy back forklift for the back of the delivery truck.

By the early 90’s the local market was growing tired of the difficulties of maintaining a bluegrass lawn and was moving to the new turf-type tall fescues (TTTF). MWL was an early adopter of TTTF and by 1992 the farm had converted completely from BGS to TTTF.

As labor became a challenge in the late 90’s, EGS began harvesting and installing big rolls of sod. Then, in 2000 the company secured 33 acres in Warren county for more sod production. An additional 76 acres were added in 2018, also in Warren county.

In March of 2021, MWL was sold to Schill Grounds Management, leaving EGS as an independent company for the first time since its inception 35 years earlier.

In 2022, Eastgate Sod acquired their first robotic harvester. The Trebro SC 2010 has been a great addition to the company’s roster of equipment to grow the best sod product in Cincinnati.
